Scuba diving is a sport in which we need to be physically fit for so let the diving doctors of the Cleveland Clinic present PFO and the scuba diver.
Patent Foramen Ovale, or PFO, is a common cardiac condition in the general population. This presentation will discuss the specific condition, including anatomic overview, and how this condition could potentially affect a scuba diver. We will discuss basic physiology of diving, including gas consumption and how inert gasses affect the body, as well as signs, symptoms, and causes of decompression illness, and how PFO’s can potentially play into this condition. We will also discuss the workup of PFO’s and treatment options available.
